I've never believed that advertising is harmless. Nor have I ever believed that women have not suffered from continuous bombardment with images of so-called "ideal" beauty. This video explains why.
Of course men also suffer from harmful images and stereotypes, but these are not quite as fixated on appearance as feminine stereotypes. I think it IS getting worse for men though unfortunately, with stronger marketing campaigns to sell beauty products to men. I want to see men with hairy chests!! Other male stereotypes I'd like to see terminated are those of aggression, hugeness, violence, toughness, lack of tenderness and compassion, heterosexuality, dominance (sexually and otherwise) and the objectification of others, which obviously ties in with dominance.
